Last month Partners for Conservation was happy to start a new cooperation with ARTEFACT, who will send volunteers to work at Partners for Conservation for a period of twelve months.  ARTEFACT is a German non-profit organization, dedicated to the application and dissemination of economically viable, ecologically and socially appropriate technologies for regionally and internationally sustainable development.

ARTEFACT, a centre for sustainable development, has been registered as sending organization with the volunteer program of the German Ministry for Development Cooperation “weltwärts”. Under the funding from the German government, ARTEFACT has started identifying project partners in East Africa for volunteer placements. This represents an opportunity for young German residents that may volunteer in a one year learning scheme with the name “Solivol” in cooperation with partners in East African countries.

It’s actually after both, Partners for Conservation and ARTEFACT, have signed a Memorandum Of Understanding in quality of sending and hosting partners of the Solivol program, that this March 14th, 2017 Mr. Frank Lüschow, ARTEFACT Coordinator, paid a visit to Partners For Conservation Head Quarters.

According to Mr. Frank, the visit was part of his usual and annual visit to old and new hosting partners to discuss various arrangements needed for incoming volunteers. Being a new partner, it was therefore an utmost wish for him to meet our team after the MoU was signed between two organizations and ahead of the arrival of Miss Leonie Zeuner (volunteer) to be hosted by Partners for Conservation during the 2017 placement. In the absence of the Executive Director, who was away for family issues, Mr. Frank met the rest of the team including Hamiisi Ewedde, Emmanuel Biracyaza and Aimable Twizere, who took him through Partners For Conservation background, current status and way-forwards.

Dedicated to the extension and sharing of opportunities in promotion, protection and conservation of biodiversity through education, research, information collection and sharing, development and cultural activities, Partners for Conservation believes in innate capabilities of every human being to promote, protect and conserve the biodiversity. Since its inception, Partners for Conservation has put volunteering and internship development in the heart of its intervention just to serve as a platform for everyone from farmers to businessmen, from children to adults, from illiterates to academicians, from poor to donors, from volunteers to professionals. Such contract with a renowned organization invested in volunteering development is an invaluable step towards our goals.

After a brief presentation about Partners for Conservation and a tour to our demonstration plot and livestock, Mr. Frank Lüschow revealed his impression in regards to what we managed to achieve in such short time since the organization was created and without external funds. He particularly hailed our intervention approach that strengthens education and the climate change program. According to him, there was no better way to express his satisfaction and support other than signing our visitors’ book with this very bright text: “NEVER STOP PLANTING TREES FOR GREEN FUTURE”. As Partners for Conservation, we were extremely delighted by his visit and we will never forget his bright advises recommendations that we will build on to keep our momentum. He expressed his hope as for a long-term and responsible partnership between ARTEFACT and Partners for Conservation. We believe in at as well.
